Get off these "Mean Streets!"

The above is what our cabbie yelled today at some pedestrian daring to cross the street on a "walk" sign while our taxi was trying to turn the corner. Made me laugh and then the cabbie started laughing when he realized that I got the reference :)

So today was more annoying fittings interupted by the most important show on earth. We had to move into the alternate fitting room again where a lot of MFL stuff is stored. Oh, except the whole morning began with a tornado in the Bronx.

For real. Trees ripped up and everything.

And subsequent flooding of everything underground in the city meaning no subway and no use of the underground tunnels. So everything in town was cattywhompus as there were 10 times as many people topside all scurrying desperately down the streets trying to get to work on time. And I'm wearing a white shirt and carrying a big coffee that's sloshing around as we walk the 10 blocks to work, so you can see where that scenario went.

Anyway, got to work - tried to find Shout wipes for my shirt, to no avail (how can we have 4 wardrobe departments in this building and no Shout wipes???) and set up our fitting in the alternate fitting room. But everyone was late arriving because of the train situation. So by the time everyone gets there, the actor's been waiting quite some time and all of Jim's subsequent meetings had sort of backlogged. He ended up trying to run our fitting at the same time that he consulted with the MFL designer about shoes. And I don't mean 3 pairs of shoes. I mean like 300 pairs of shoes. They kept opening more boxes of shoes and making piles all over the room - piles to keep, piles to get rid of, piles to try on, piles pratically underneath my feet, piles encroaching into my space, piles invading my fitting. you know, lots of piles.

And Jim is mostly attending the piles and not really attending us so his assistant is running the fitting - very competantly - except extraneous MFL people keep barging in while our actor is standing around in his underwear waiting to get his pants to try on (which is so unprofessional) and Jim is occasionally looking up to say things like "Is that dress in the show? I don't remember it at all..." By the end of the morning - and i had breakfast this morning - I was SO over it. Over Jim and MFL. They all need their own separate building, somewhere far away. maybe in the Bronx...

Anyway, we finished, our show is going swimmingly and we had time to organize the work boxes. And Jim is now out of town so we don't have to worry about dealing with him until next week. yay!

that also gives us a chance to sort of evaluate our show and figure out what we need to do and then make our own schedule. So here's the upside of being completely owned by a company. There's nothing else competing for your time. So where previously I was trying to fit my regular life in around all the work I was doing, now it's all work but it really is mostly fun. And we have a lot of autonomy. We'll have even more once we leave NYC for Atlantic City (AC). Then we'll really be on our own and can run our department any way that works for us. It's a great working arrangement for me, as I've pointed out multiple times in this blog.

No sightseeing today. The organizing went late and we ended up with the head of props - Ingrid - at "Burgers and Cupcakes" for dinner. They indeed serve two things, boldly advertised, I might add. And I have a cupcake waiting for me...

So bye all!

Next time you get a chance to use your camera, how about some shots of the people you mostly talk about, like Mike. I think maybe I prefer to imagine what "jim" looks like... Maybe a couple shots of the gondolas too!

The cupcake, sadly, was only adequate. Frosting was great and everything else was...eh. But their cheese fries were amazing! See the one thing they aren't advertising...
