Sidewalks and the lack thereof

For those who think I exaggerate, well, you aren't wrong. However! I wasn't exaggerating about the Antigua sidewalks. See for yourselves...

I'd complain about the car parked on the sidewalk but you'll notice that if he didn't park on the sidewalk, there would be no passing him on the street. There may be no passing as it is...

Ditto here, plus a motorcycle and a lamp post.

And the sidewalk dissolves into a driveway.

And for the finale, an open air butcher shop right off the sidewalk. Refrigeration is for wussies!

More Antigua

A few more...

This is the school we kids used to attend, HueHue Academy (pronounced WayWay), a beautiful old house and now some kind of business. We couldn't get in to scout around.

One of the governmental buildings that line that Parque Central, all lit up (well, you know, obviously! )

Santa's sleigh! On a pickup truck!

The Baby Jesus and an Angel, also on the back of of a (different) pickup truck. Please note that the Baby Jesus is strapped to the chest of the angel for safe keeping :)

And lastly, a reminder of the eternal military presence and their AK-47s

Antigua

I have so many pictures from this beautiful little city that I'll post several batches.

Because nothing says "Welcome!" like ONE towel in the shape of a swan...

The Parque Central at night with all the Christmas lights up.

The fountain in the Parque Central. Yes those are women. And yes, the water is coming out of their nipples. Gotta love the Latin sense of design! You want to see that close up?

Oh, so glad you asked!

One of the many ruined churches around town.

A typical street with the brightly colored buildings and the beautiful iron work.

I'll put up a couple of posts of just the iron work and the doors. It's enchanting.

Also pending, those sidewalks I talked about :)
