Perks
The fun thing about being in a place like Atlantic City is the shows and commedians and singers that come through town. The sucky thing is being in a show yourself, making it almost impossible to see anyone else's shows since we're all on the same schedule.
But occasionally there's a late night show that we can just barely make, like Kathy Griffin last night.
Our show ended at 10:38 and her second show started at 11 and we just made it. Fortunately, the casinos are pretty close together. The theatre at the Borgata casino is pretty small and intimate, the perfect venue for a show like hers.
And she puts on a great show. I like her style - pretending that we're all her closest friends and she's dishing on the celebrities that she's happened to rub elbows with. And her impression of Paris Hilton getting lost on stage at the MTV (?) awards was my favorite bit of the night. The house was completely packed and being a late night show, everyone was pretty rowdy and ready to be right there with her.
However, it being Atlantic City, there were a lot of older people in the audience who no doubt got comped tickets as a result of all their gambling etc. And I'm here to tell you that it's the rare senior citizen who will appreciate a Kathy Griffin show. Her material is too raunchy and obsene and contemporary for them, I think. As a result, I saw several older couples walk out.
It was an hour and a half long and we tried to get backstage afterward but to no avail. Several people in our cast put together a DVD for her, trying to entice her to do a walk on during one of our shows. We don't think she got it, which is too bad. That would have been a fun show :)
The other show we've seen here was a tribute to Motown.
It was all music with a great cast of 3 men and 3 women singers. The only confusing part was the choice to cast white girls in all the dancer roles.
In a show about motown.
Seriously??
We saw the show for free and I would rate it as "awesome" proportional to the money I paid for it. I'm not sure how I would have felt had I paid for tickets, but Motown music isn't really my thing so I'm probably not the best judge.
However, the most highly anticipated event happens tonight when we get to go see Jon Stewart's show at Ceasars. He also has an 11PM show and we'll have to drive further so we'll see how it goes. But the tickets are free and most of our cast, crew and band are going so it should be a fun crowd.
In other news, it's fall and I'm finally in a place where leaves change colors! Hooray!
So we picked up pumkins for carving. This is Corey, our flyman.
And Ingrid, our props girl. You should be hearing more about them over the ensuing months.
But the weather here? ICK! It's still 85 during the day and HUMID. humidity that turns into mist that is so heavy and low it looks like the clouds are touching the ground and the air is full of water droplets. New Jersey, this is gross!
And on that note, have a good day all :)
